- Getting Started: Introduction
If you have reached this page, you are probably interested in starting to play Continuum, and hopefully, Warzone. These pages are intended as a basic guide to the processes of downloading, installing, setting up, and finally, playing Continuum and Warzone.
Any suggestions for improvements to this guide can be emailed to slowbob@wzctf.net as either an attachment (for larger sections) or simple suggestions.
What is Continuum? Continuum is revamped client for an old game, called SubSpace. SubSpace was originally developed as a commercial venture by Virgin Interactive Entertainment (VIE), and was marketed and sold as a boxed game. Despite this, problems within VIE and other contributing factors, VIE stopped supporting the game and closed down all of its servers. This was not the end of the game however. Player run-servers soon started to appear, and were connected to a centralised billing server (Sonera Billing).
At this point, cheats/hacks were common - and Continuum was developed by two players, PriitK and Mr. Ekted to try not only add new functionality, but also remove the cheating element.
The Game itself is essentially a highly addictive top-down 2d space shoot 'em up, containing various zones offering different styles of gameplay. Since all of the servers are now player run, you can participate in the fun FREE OF CHARGE.
What is Warzone? Remember we said Continuum contained various zones offering different styles of gameplay? Warzone is one of these zones. It consists of 8 flags, and a set of teams - the first team able to gain control of all flags and hold them for 90 seconds wins the game. Warzone uses what players call "SVS" (Standard VIE Settings) - the zone itself was amongst the first to be created by the VIE team itself. You will not find super ships and godmode here, you will find a balanced set of tried and tested settings which make not only for skilled play, but also hours fun.
How can I play? There are two main files you will need in order to play Continuum. These are: Continuum038Setup.exe (4.75 MB) and Continuum039pr1.zip (567.82 Kb). Continuum038Setup.exe is a self extracting file from which you can install V0.38 of Continuum. Continuum039pr1.zip is the first upgrade for V0.38 - it upgrades to V0.39pr1 (Pre-Release1). Both of these files are available in the downloads section of this site.
Please note, that currently Continuum will only work on a Windows based platform.
Once you have downloaded both of these files, you are ready to proceed to the Installation section of this guide. Click here to proceed to the Installation section. |
